Note: FT-710 still has CAT issues despite Yaesu firmware updates. MSHV is a reliable WSJT-X alternative with no issues.
FT-710 has issues handling multiple CAT ports. WSJT-X errors due to FT-710 "?" response.
Try MSHV by LZ2HV. It works great and doesn’t error!

CatTouch SD card insert
To update firmware, download the latest version at the bottom of the page. Watch this video
Unzip the file and copy CatTouch.fw to a FAT32-formatted SD card.
This firmware file must be in the root folder (e.g., D:\CatTouch.fw).
Unmount or eject the SD card from your computer to close the file.
On FT-710, turn off the transceiver and leave CatTouch connected.
For all other models, unplug the CAT cable from CatTouch.
Insert the card into CatTouch and turn it on (for FT-710, turn on the transceiver).
CatTouch automatically finds new firmware on the SD card and installs it. Do not turn off CatTouch or remove the SD card until it has finished and restarted.
Once the new firmware is installed, the Calibrate Touch screen appears.
You MUST use the provided stylus and touch each arrow when prompted.
If you touch the wrong area, calibration will detect an error and repeat until correct.
Tip: Put your glasses on and use the provided stylus.
The screen has a resistive touch panel, so the stylus must be hard and smooth to avoid scratching the screen. A soft stylus will not work.

Military History
Introduced in the mid-1970s, the AN/ARC-174 was widely adopted by the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, and Royal Navy.
Its versatility allowed for installations in military helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, land-mobile and marine applications.
It became standard equipment on aircraft such as the HH-60H Rescue Hawk, SH-60B/F Seahawk, MH-53E Sea Dragon, and CH-53E Super Stallion.
With additional hardware, the AN/ARC-174 supported secure voice and low-speed data services, extending its utility beyond conventional voice communications.
Civilian Applications
The commercial counterpart, the Collins 718U-5, served extensively in civilian aviation for long-range operations.
It was installed in aircraft such as the Boeing 747, DC-9 series, and various Gulfstream business jets.
The 718U-5 earned a reputation for reliability and performance with coverage from 2 MHz to 30MHz with SSB, AM, and CW modes.
Higher-power amplifier configurations (400W) were available for long-range commercial communications.

Military History
Introduced in 2012, the RF-7800H-MP marked a major advance in tactical HF communications.
Adopted by the U.S. Department of Defense and over 20 allied nations for secure beyond-line-of-sight operations.
Used in Afghanistan to link remote outposts where terrain prevented line-of-sight or satellite communications.
Deployed by forces in the Middle East during regional conflicts including the Yemen intervention and counter-ISIS operations.
Also confirmed in Ukrainian battlefield use, where resilient HF links proved critical against heavy electronic warfare and SATCOM disruption.

It became a standard long-range tactical HF radio for U.S. forces during the 1990s and 2000s.
Extensively used in conflicts including the Gulf War, Balkans operations, and early campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Its ALE and data capabilities made it one of the first truly modern digital-capable HF manpacks.
